The exibition is part of the general didactic program of the Ma - Museo africano, finalised at fostering a positive encounter with Africa by initiatives of deeper knowledge of the continent, of education to welcome ethnic diversity and inter-cultural dialogue. The display illustrates the artistic richness of Africa by describing the major areas where the ancient roots of African art are found. A richness which expressed itself not only in the creation of the most original art works but also - at the beginning of the past century - as the source of inspiration in the artistic evolution of great figures like Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani.
The exposition leads through objects produced along the years in the five main areas of development of traditional African art. Art works are accompanied by large panels showing pictures of the correspondent areas and detailed explanations underlining the characteristics of each area. Once again, colours play a major role in the display. The supporting structure of the objects emphasises the classic three-cromatic use of red, white and black. Each of them has its specific significance. To offer the visitors a complete view of historical and modern African artistic scenary, the future plan of the Ma includes the organisation of an exposition on contemporary African art.
